Remmy's Story
|
Remmy got her name because she was a rescue, and I was her remedy -- thus, the name Rescue Remedy. But she wasn't the only one who was rescued; I got her soon after my mom died so she was sort of a 'rescue remmedy' for me too. We rescued each other, and it's been wonderful ever since. She was my first foster dog. Needless to say, I failed "Fostering 101" simply because this little black and white girl easily won my heart so I decided to adopt her. Remmy was dumped at 7 weeks old with her mother at a shelter by a breeder, who had found homes for the rest of the litter, but was moving and didn't want to take the two dogs. So I got Remmy and she got me. Remmy is a lovable clown. Always wants to be near me and loves to snuggle. She will just stare at me with those big brown eyes. She is wonderful to work with, but she does have her shy side. It takes her a while to warm up to strangers and strange dogs. She has to accept them on her own terms. But once she does, they are friends for life. Remmy is a very happy dog. She loves to play and chase her older "brother" and "sisters" and loves getting attention. Remmy is also a food hound and learns things quickly for a treat. Remmy had some obedience and agility training, but flyball is the sport we like the most and that's where she competes. For those of you who don't know, Flyball is a relay race where a dog goes over 4 jumps, catches a tennis ball from a spring loaded box, and brings the ball back over the jumps. It's a relay race for a team of four dogs against another team of 4 dogs. Titles are awarded by how many points the team of dogs gets, based on the times of their races. Remmy got her first 3 titles when she made her debut, and got her Flyball Master title in her first year of racing. I've fostered about 6 dogs over the last couple of years and have found it a rewarding experience. I've been lucky that the dogs I've fostered have been good dogs and gotten along well with my dogs. The biggest challenge I had with one of my foster dogs was that she was terrified of almost everything. Even opening a potato chip bag scared her. She had never been socialized, and just wanted a human to love but she had no idea how to ask for it. We worked a lot on socializing her and she finally found her forever home and her very own person to love. Remmy has also found her forever home: she loves me and I love her right back!! © 2004 Linda Kriete. |
