Cody's Story

My husband, Warren, and I adopted Cody (ARPH 5111) in March 2002, 8 months after Rufus (my first Aussie) died at aged 12. Cody came to us via Lizz Koedam, an ARPH representative, and Lisa Mankie and family, an ARPH foster family, after being bailed out of a shelter in Southeastern Virginia.

My husband graciously agreed to another dog after realizing that for me, nothing in the world could replace coming home to a “wiggle butt.” We took him for a weekend trial visit, and within a few hours he was assured of a permanent home when he jumped up on my lap and fell asleep with his head in the crook of my arm.

In addition to a “wiggle butt”, he has a VERY engaging grin! Initially somewhat leery of men, he is now a total “Daddy’s boy.” I sometimes joke that I am going to adopt my own Aussie now that Warren has one!

Cody completed level two obedience, but still has “bossy Aussie” tendencies. That’s what makes them so appealing, right?

Cody's best friend in the neighborhood is a cat (imagine that!) and his favorite place to spend time is the local dog park, where he practices his herding and scavenging skills. He’s always the first in the pack to spot the visitor with a pocketful of dog treats. He is overseeing his flock at the park in the attached photo.
