Why Should You Join BRASC?

BRASC serves all local Aussie owners and fanciers, members and nonmembers alike. If you are interested in learning more about the Australian Shepherds, our club provides an opportunity to learn about topics such as training, health issues, breeding, genetics, and competing with your Australian Shepherd in dog sports such as obedience, herding, agility, and conformation.

BRASC and its members promote responsible ownership through education. For those interested in pet ownership, club members are available to offer information and advise for those new to the breed or are thinking of getting a dog. Our shows are open to the public, and provide an informal forum for people wanting to learn more about Aussies, meet our dogs, and chat with breeders and exhibitors. Our members have a wealth of knowledge and years of experience raising and training Aussies, and share a desire to educate fellow fanciers, newcomers, as well as the general community.

For the novice Aussie owner curious about the pleasures of dog ownership beyond simply having a pet, BRASC provides an introduction to the "organized dog world". Through club activities, you can discover what is entailed in showing your Aussie; learn how to train your dog and participate in numerous dog sports such as obedience, herding, and agility competition; or learn about the responsibilities and challenges of selectively breeding quality purebred dogs. Many people have come to find the hobby and sport of purebred dogs a source of personal enjoyment, an outlet for the competitive spirit, and a path to new and rewarding friendships. The club stands ready to help you explore this new world. With friendship and goodwill, our members are always willing to help folks learn about and experience the fun of competition.

For the experienced Aussie fancier, BRASC provides an opportunity to share information and expertise as well as learn from other club members. BRASC sponsors at least one seminar each year geared toward the more experienced Aussie owner. Our members feel very strongly that education is the preservation of the breed we love, and we strive to educate the public about our wonderful breed. It is a way to fulfill one's obligations as a responsible breeder/exhibitor. In addition, all members support ethical and humane breeding practices that include hip, eye and congenital disease clearances before planned breeding and encourage sportsmanlike conduct at all activities and events which promote the Australian Shepherd.

Club membership gives Aussie folks a place to socialize and share camaraderie with other Aussie owners and club members. We welcome anyone with a love for or curiosity about Australian Shepherds. If this is you, we encourage you to attend one of our events or a meeting or two to see what we are about. The club is a great way to meet people and learn about the breed.
