About BRASC

The Blue Ridge Australian Shepherd Club (BRASC), a non-profit organization formed in Virginia in 1984, is an affiliate member of the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA). Our club was established as a means to get together and find fun and exciting ways to include our dogs in our lives, while promoting ASCA and the Australian Shepherd.

Our members are involved in almost every type of competition including herding, conformation and show handling, obedience, agility, and other dog sports as well as search and rescue—all of which showcase the true versatility of this wonderful breed. BRASC is also involved in Aussie Rescue with several members specializing in rescuing Aussies and finding them loving homes. Our membership offers a wealth of knowledge and many years of experience in breeding, raising, showing, training, and loving Aussies. Many members in our club are willing to mentor new members and share their experiences.

Members work together to host competitive events, as well as other fun and educational events. Each year, BRASC holds 3-6 conformation and obedience events as well as an occasional herding or agility event. Many of our events such as obedience, herding, and agility are open to all breeds; however, conformation shows are only opened to ASCA registered Australian Shepherds. Our shows are open to the public and provide an informal forum for people who want to learn more about Aussies to meet our dogs and chat with us.

One of the goals of BRASC is to provide a place where members can socialize & interact with other Aussie owners. We feel very strongly that education is the preservation of the breed we love. Therefore, BRASC serves as an educational vehicle for members and interested Aussie fanciers by providing an opportunity for people to learn about the Australian Shepherd including information on training, exhibiting, health, structure, breeding, and genetics. BRASC members frequently discuss issues pertinent to the breed at our regular club meetings or on our yahoo group.

While BRASC offers many things, above all BRASC is a friendly, helpful, fun group of people with a common interest: we all love Aussies. Some of our members do not show their dogs or even own Aussies, but have joined for the friendship and camaraderie that our club offers.

We are always seeking to strengthen our club with new members and fresh ideas. Come join our club, share your ideas, and see what we're all about! We would love to meet you.
